Updating Your Marketing Habits for 2021 & Beyond

With the advancement of technology, marketing strategies have changed significantly.  Traditional marketing habits are becoming less effective. Due to the increasing population of the younger audiences into the buying world, businesses today have started changing their marketing techniques to target these younger audiences for their products.

In the U.S alone there are about 80 million millennials!  This larger market is more likely to try out new products and services and are all about self-education, having grown up able to research more than any previous generation. This means that traditional marketing methods won’t work, and they are more than willing to move onto the next product should their experience with you be less than satisfactory.

Comparing Marketing Habits

There are many differences between traditional and current marketing strategies. However, the main difference between the two marketing strategies is the medium of marketing that is used. The traditionall marketing strategies were mainly focused on magazines and newspapers, all designed to try to force consumers to call you to get more information. New marketing strategies use digital media such as social media platforms and websites, putting more importance than ever on staying up-to-date online.

Magazines and newspapers generally reach a fairly small market.  This is where digital marketing efforts shine. Digital marketing can reach further as people can (and do!) share content through their digital platforms. New marketing habits can be divided into 3 categories:

  • inbound marketing
  • content marketing
  • social media marketing.

Below each type of marketing will be evaluated in-depth, so you can better understand how to utilize these tools into your marketing habits.

Building New Habits

Inbound Marketing

Inbound marketing focuses on solving the problems that the customers are experiencing and forming connections with leads and clients. It tailors valuable content to specific customers in order to attract them to buy the products from business. It’s all about allowing putting the write information in front of your customer at the right time. Allowing the customer to come to you in their own time, versus throwing your information at them and hoping it sticks.

The three stages of inbound marketing are:

  1. Attracting your customers by acknowledging their issues.
  2. Engaging with the customers by providing them with a solution.
  3. Delighting the customers by showing them why your solution is their best choice.

This practice enables a business to provide solutions to the problems that their target customers are facing and builds trust before ever even opening a line of communication. It’s the perfect marketing habit for providing support and empower potential customers.

Content Marketing

Content marketing is an informative strategy focused on the content created for the marketing piece. The goal of content marketing is to answer questions the target audience may have. Every word included needs be thoughtfully crafted to provide your potential customers with value. It is possible that content marketing may not turn leads into clients. However, if you use content marketing correctly, you will establish your company as an expert in your field. The content utilized is created to be read and used, even if the reader never becomes your client. Content marketing can be carried out through a variety of media including educational articles, videos, webinars, e-books, and entertainment platforms.

Social Media Marketing

Social media is one of the newest media forms used for marketing. With over 3.81 BILLION users (backlinko.com,) utilizing social media to build your brand recognition can have tremendous impact on your company. With the correct strategies and content, not only can you improve your brand recognition, but also your company’s reputation.

Social media allows companies to interact and connect with their customers more quickly than any other form of marketing. This can increase customer satisfaction as well as customer retention. Social media is also a great way to link back to your website and content and provide your customers with valuable information. The more value you provide, the better your online reputation.

It’s also important to keep an active account so if any potential customers are scouting you out online, you appear active and easily engageable. Don’t worry about having an account across all platforms, just stick with where your customers are, such as LinkedIn if you’re b2b, or YouTube if you share a lot of helpful videos.
